Partners: Technische Universität München Klinikum Rechts der Isar (TUM)
TUM is one of the leading universities in Germany which was recently grunted the status of excellence with additional funding and creation of new research groups by the German government. The main contribution of this group at TUM within the sub-project 4 "Metabolism, toxicokinetikcs and modelling" is the isolation of human liver cells and their application as described in the work packages. Briefly, we will use our experience in PBPK modelling, in vitro ADME and in vitro toxicology studies.
Key staff involved in the project
Andreas Nüssler, Prof. PhD, group leader of the Department of Traumatology, head of experimental medicine within the department at TUM. He is part-time lecturer in surgery and traumatology. His specific area of research concerns the involvement of studying various pathways leading to inflammatory reactions in the liver by using isolated liver cells and whole livers. He developed standard culture methods to isolate various fractions of human liver cells for routine use to study specific aspects of drug metabolism. Since human hepatocytes are not continuously available hepatocyte-like cells, generated by stem cell like technology. This technology have been successfully applied in vitro to test metabolic capacity and in vivo to reduce mortality in rats.
